Island of the Lost: An Extraordinary Story of Survival at the Edge of the World

By Joan Druett

This book is about a crew of 5 sailors that get shipwrecked on Auckland Island in the year 1864. Auckland Island is an island with barely any natural resources, a dearth of shelter, and intense storms. Under Thomas Musgrave's leadership, they work together to salvage from the wreck, find food, build shelter, and make tools. They persevere through the harsh natural environment and band together to try to succeed. At the same time, another crew gets shipwrecked on the same island, but with far worse results. They end up dealing with mutiny, fighting, and cannibalism.

I would rate this book 4 out of 5. It was a super interesting book and was written well. It was a little repetitive but overall a great read. I would especially recommend it for people who like shipwreck stories or good nonfiction.
